Huntly Town Board
The usual monthly of the Huntly Road Board was held on Saturday- last, there being present, Messrs J. P, Bailey (chairman), L. B. Harris, jun., W. D. Thompson, and W. JF. Parker.
A letter was received from the General Manager of Railways stating that Kimihia station could only be reinstated for goods traffic on the payment by the Board of £3O for making a road of access. The Board considered the matter and directed the clerk to reply that the Board had no right to spend money on the Railway property, and that, if the connection with, the old colliery lrne were restored, there would be no need of road making. He was also directed to write to the newly appointed Trade Commissioner re the matter.
Waikato County Council wrote asking the Board to form the road of access to the new bridge which is to be erected at Proctor’s. The Board decided to reply that there was no moneyavailable for this work. Mr. Me Adam waited cn the Board with a petition from Te Hoe, Ohinewai and Matahuru settlers asking that a road be opened up to connect Te Hoe with the Orini Road.
He pointed out that this road 0 was necessary to give the settiers in the Huntly Road Dis- ■ trier a direct road to the Wftikato saleyar’ds and to give the , settlers on the south side of the Mangawliara a stock road to . Rangiriri. ” He offered,'on behalf of the Company he represented, to dedicate to the Board, free of all ’ cost, a road, the route of which e is to be fixed by the Board, leading from the Te Hoe Road to the Mangawhara stream. He pointed out, too, that a settler on the other side of the stream had offered to dedicate a strip of land to' connect with the Orini Road, and that the Local t Bodies would require to form the i roads and build the necessary l bridge. s The Board recognised the neo cessity of a connecting road, and 1 agreed to visit and inspect the / proposed route. As the matter r would concern the Kirikiriroa j Board as well, it was de--1 cided to endeavour to arrange a t joint visit with representatives of - that body. i. The Auckland Automobile o Association wrote, regretting that - they could not see their way to d assist in repairing the Taupiri d Gorge Road, but promising to use what influence they could on the Government with a view to there taking oyer this piece of road. The clerk reported that, in consequence of representations made, the Government had now granted the sum of £SOO for the H untly-Taupiri Road. After V consultation with the Chairman d he had made out plans and - specifications for the metalling y of the road from the Huntly y Town Board boundary to Shaw’s, d The action of the Chairman and t. Clerk was approved, and it was e decided that tenders for breakr ing of the necessary metal be ■ • called as soon as the approval of y the District Engineer was receivs ed. At the same time, it was t decided that tenders be called s for quarrying, breaking and eartc ing of about 500 cubic yards of J sandstone or gravel at Te Hoe. r Tenders were opened as t follows: —For cutting and filling etc. at Mangatea. r Wera» Witika £2O.
