The Taupiri Sawmill, which ; was closed down at the outbreak 1 of the war, owing to the disloca- i tion of trade caused by the pre- \ sence of German commerce des- j fcroyers on the trade routes, will \ re-open on January 4th. 1915. < Arrangements have been made to commence work both in the -j bush and in the mill, with a full j staff of men. We understand [ that orders are coming in freely, ( one especially large one having ] been received from England. t Despite the dry weather, the } country about Taupiri is looking [ very well. There is plenty of <- feed and all classes of stock are t thriving. The Mangawhara s Plains. Estate, which was cut up \ and sold about four years ago, is c rapidly altering its appearance, j Before, it was subdivided, the greater part of it consisted of c undrained swamp and fern hills, ( and had anything but a promis- 1 ing appearance. The settlers who took up the sections are, r without exception an energetic t lot, as is shown by the work they t have done in the short time they s have been in occupation. A tour of v the Estate now reveals miles and s miles of splendid drains and first n class fences. Hundreds of acres r of grass have been sown on the v swamps and on the fern hills, a and the whole country now re- f presents a smiling appearance. s This hitherto almost useless area t] of land is rapidly becoming a n great producing country and wUidfl add vcrv materially id' Ori 1 as >• m a - \\ ii v >:■; !
