Political Meeting.
Messrs Parry and Semple addressed a large meeting in the Miners’ Union Hall on Sunday night on the present industrial and political situation. The speakers who received an excellent hearing, deprecated the three cornered contest, and advised the electors to have a straight-out fight between two candidates, as the presence of a third in the field only tended to split votes. They asserted that the workers could not expect reform on democratic lines from the present Government, and advised them to elect as their represtative men who would act in the interests of the workers. The following resolution when put to the meeting was carried unanimously:—That this meeting of Huntly citizens expresses its appreciation of the past efforts of Messrs Parry and Semple on behalf of the workers of New Zealand, and in view of recent happenings in Huntly urge them to redouble theiit efforts throughout the Dominion in order to place the true facts before all workers.” The speakers stated that they had no official connection with any political party, and in view of the resolution p ; ssed in Huntly and elsewhere they would tour the Dominion in the interests of democracy, and would visit all agricultural and industrial centres in the country. In reply to the customary vote of thanks Messrs Parry and Semple said that the best way for theelectors to thank them was to vote against the Tory candidates offering themselves for election.
