It was p pointed out that, though it might . seem hard that the Vicar should ” be leaving just as he was getting r to know the people thoroughly, still, he was going at the call of duty, and the circumstances, of 5 the case, and his peculiar fitness ‘ for the work of superintendent of I’ the southern portion of the Maori Mission Field made it impossible for him to refuse the call. In reply, the Vicar thanked j his many friends for the help j. they had given him during his short term of office, regretting the necessity which was taking 6 him away, and stating that, alt though giving up his work 8 among the paxeha, he would f frequently be in Huntly a on mission work, and would e have many opportunities of s keeping up the friendships he r had formed here. He apologised d for the absence of Mrs McWilt liam, who was detained in Auckr land in consequence of the ill's ness of their son and heir.
