On Sunday afternoon Mr Snowden, social reformer, delivered a lecture in the Miners’ Hall to a large audience. Among the articles to be sold in aid of the Relief Fund and on behalf of clients is the picture won in the Sports Club Art Union by Mr Wilford, M.P. For particulars see our advertising columns. The annual inspection of the pupils of the district school took place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the inspecting officer being Mr J. T. G. Cox. The pupils of the Convent school are undergoing examination to-day. What with lawyers, officials, and others connected with the enquiry into the disaster at Ralph’s mine now proceeding, accommodation has been difficult to secure. This was especially the case on Wednesday evening when a number of freemasons arrived to swell the list. The quarterly meeting of the M ethodist Church was held on Wednesday evening last. The Rev. G. Spence, Chairman of the District presiding. The chief business was the invitation of the minister for the ensuing year, and a most hearty invitation was extended to the Rev. M. J. Evans to stay for a fourth year, all present agreeing as ■ to the efficient work done by Mr Evans. During the present week there passed away at the .ago of 76 a very old resideiM in the person of Mrs T. Berry, William Street. For some time the deceased lady was practically an invalid, and suffered considerably from rheumatism. She leaves a. husband, five sons and one daughter to mourn their loss—all of whom have the sympathy of the residents of Huntly.
