Mr J. T. G. Cox, inspector of schools, has spent the last four days in the town. Mr H. R. Porter has been unanimously elected to till the vacancy on the school Oommitee caused bv the departure of Mr T. Black. At the meeting held on Wednesday night Mr J. Kinson was installed as Worshipful Master of Lodge Taupiri. Messrs. Oliver Nicholson, Catchpole, Laghton and others represented Grand Lodge at the ceremony. Mr O.itchp'de. cliainn in of the Pukemiro Coal Mines, Ltd., and several of the directors with others interested, visited the mine on Thursday, noting en route the progress being made with tlie railway works. A ll a ppre ciati on o f the s e rvic e s of Mi* T. Black to local educational matters was recorded on the minutes by the School Committee at its last meetings. Mr Frank Reed Inspecting Engineer of Mines, who at the enquiry now being held was in the wittness box for two days left for Wellington on Wednesday night. Mr W. D. Thompson, who W as unanimously chosen as the liberal candidate for the Raglan electorate by the local branch of the New Zealand Liberal League, is a resident of Te Hoe, who is well known throughout the electorate as a successful farmer. He is a member of the Huntly Road Board, and a director of the Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd, Mr Thompson is highly esteemed and very keen in advancing the progress of his district.
