Draughts Championship.

WON BY HUNTLY RESIDENT On Tuesday the New Zealand Draughts championship tournament, which reached its conclusion in Auckland on Tuesday last, was won by the Huntly Representative, Mr D. Calderwood, who, out of the 40 games played, won 28, drew 11. and lost one to J. Boreham of Dunedin. The finish was close and exciting, J. Gardiner, of Westport, last year’s champion, being the runner up. Calderwood’s last opponent was W. Carswell, of Mosgeil, who lost one game and drew the other. The following are the scores of the first six players, all of whom played the iuWfo games : won dr. pts.

The sealed handicap for cash prizes was decided on the championship games, the four scratch men filling the first four places, Calderwood winning £ls ; Gardiner, £10; Boreham, £8 ; and Hilliker, £B.
