Sunday School Teachers’ Picnic.

A teachers’ picnic, organised by the Huntly Branch of the Auckland Sunday School Union, was held on Easter Monday. The Union had chartered the launch Ronaki, and about half-past ten the launch departed with a full load of teachers and their friends for Littlewood's landing. The day proved beautifully fine, and the trip up to the landing was most enjoyable. The Union having undertaken the catering, the picnickers had nothing to do on landing but enjoy themselves, and this they proceeded to do with a will. After lunch had been partaken of, the majority of those present engaged in games of various kinds, and the enthusiasm displayed w as remarked upon by all. When tired of games, some wandered off fernhnnting, others went to view the country round about, while others watched the arrival of the timber train, and the operations of the men forming rafts of the huge logs which were to be towed down to the Taupiri sawmills; Towards evening, a fresh onslaught was made on the good things provided for refreshment of the inner man, and a little after five, a start was made for home, Huntly being reached about seven. The unanimous verdict of the picnickers was that the day had been most enjoyable, and some were so pleased that they wanted another picnic organised straight away. It is considered, however, that it is now too late in the year for more picnics, but no doubt, the affair will be made an annual one. It is very pleasing to find that the outing has proved so enjoyable, for the work of the teachers is so hard and thankless, they deserve some little enjoyment offered them as a set off against the worries and annoyances they often have to put up with.
