Bible In State Schools.
Oil Wednesday afternoon a very pleasant time was spent by a number of ladies from the Presbyterian, Methodist, and Anglican Chueohts and the Church of Christ. The Rev. J. T. Me William opened the meeting with prayer and a reading from the text book used in the Queensland State Schools. Miss Bagnall, travelling secretary for tile Auckland Women’s Branch of the League, then spoke oh the need for united action. The following resolution asking for a referendum on the matter was carried unanimously, and has been sent to all the members of the Cabinet: — “ That this meeting expresses the conviction that a sufficient number of the people of New Zealand have evidenced their desire for the Referendum requested by the Bible in State Schools League to justify the Government in introducing the necessary measure, and resolves to support the Executive of the League in any steps which may be taken to ensure the submission of the question to the whole electors of the Dominion at the next General Election ; and that a copy of this resolution be sent to eacli of the Cabinent Ministers.” A strong committee was elected to carry on the business inHuntly: Mrs Gleeson, president ; Mrs Richards, resigned: Mrs Herd, vice-president; vice Mrs Hooker, corresponding secretary: Mrs Porter, coin tea secretary; Miss Lynch, treasurer. Afternoon tea was passed round after the drier business had been discussed. A hearty vote of thanks to the Rev. and Mrs McWilliam for their kindness and hospitality was carried, and brought a very happy and enthusiastic meeting to a close.
