Macdiarmid, 28yds. COMMITTEE MEETING. The sports commitiee held its weekly meeting on Wednesday night when the various arrangements were advanced a further stage. The secretary intimated j that the e" were large, and j were still dug in. Those that were late nad been reluctantly obliged 1 eturn. The handicapping been completed, and as mar competitors thought well of jir chances in the various events, the work must ! have been done in a highly satis- ! factory manner. Mr J. Clout, convener of the ground c< * v »niitlee, reported that work on Recreation Ground was goir 1, the track having been c d rolled, and the course rely fenced. The commi recommended that none e . those on duly he allowed inside the fence, and in the event of any encroachment the sports he stopped until the course had been cleared. Mr Clout’s suggestions were adopted and he was thanked for the good work done, and was asked to supervise the erection of a platform for the dancing competition. Mess \ Briton and D. Suttie stated t they had interviewed the pipi md dancers present at Nga rur. lia regatta, and there was ev reason to hope that the ei s in the piping and dancing competitions would he numerous. They had pleasure in reporting that Mr T. Ingram had kindly consented to judge both competitions. The report of the concert subcommittee was also unanimously approved, the general committee expressing its full confidence in the members who were doing, and would continue to do, their utmost to promote the interests of the sports. Mr Dixon stated that donations in cash and in the form of rrophies were still being received, and that the funds were gradually nearing the £IOO which ho had sethis mind on seoufmg. He had visited Auckland during the week, and was highly gratified with the assurances of financial support and personal .attendance received. The programme sub-commit-tee hoped to have everything prepared for approval at the next meeting of the genera) committee.
Mr W. FatleVsan was appointed to act with Mr _yL Burgess as time-keeper, while Mr A. A. Stewart’s offer to act as dressing-room steward was acj cepted. DONATIONS.
