TAUPIRI. The football match Ngaruawahia versus Tuupiri played on the local ground on Saturday, July ended in i win for the latter team by 10 points to 8. Both sides secured tw > tries, and Taupiri were lucky enough to convert both, while Ngaruawaliia were successful with only one. In spite of the very adverse weather c >n*diti ms the game was fast and exciting, 1 lie re being very little difference between the two t earns. This match gives Taupiri the premiership in the Senior Grade for the season 1913. Our hoys are to he congratulated on their success as they lost both matches in the first round which put them decidedly in the rear. We seem to have the prevailing “small-pox’’ all round our settlemeat. Dr Watt attended to vaccinate the school children but managed to get through only about half when the supply of lymph ran out. There seem to no measures taken here to isolate the Maoris as they still roam about the township using the stores, post office and hotel. What are the Health Authorities doing to allow such a state o affairs to continue. We have no local body to exercise jurisdiction in the matter. Mr J. Waters, who lost several fingers in an accident at the mill some time hack, is now convalescent. A meeting to form a branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Library Building on Monday 21st. In spite of the inclement weather there was a good attendance. Mr Schmitt the District Secretary, addressed the meeting and outlined the objects of the Union. It was unanimously decided to form a branch. Mr Waring was elected President, and Mr Byroa-Powell Secretary, The election of an executive committee was held over for another meeting to be held shortly.
