The wool , sale here was an exceptionally good one for three-quarter-bred and halfbred sorts, which opened ■up particuarly well. Passings were negligible and almost a total clearance was effected at auction. The official range of prices was as folows: — Merino: Extra super, nil; super to 203 d, average 17d to 20d, inferior 15 id to 16id.• Fine halfbred, 56-58’s, super to 2l£d, average 17d to 19Jd, inferior 144 dto 16 Id. Medium halfbred, 50-56’s, super 16£ to 18d, average 14kl to 16jd, inferior nil. Three quarterbred, 48-50’s, super to 17fd, average 13-kl to 15d, inferior 10|d to 13d. Crossbred, 44146’5, super to 12}d, average B}cl to ll}d, inferior to 6d to, Bd. Pieces: Merino 13id to 183 d; halfbred, good to super 16d to 201d,' low to medium 124 dto 15d; threequarterhred lid to 14} d. Bellies: Merino 13d to lod; halfbred 13d to loj-d; three-quarterbred 9d to 12d; crossbred 6}d to Bd. Crutchings : Medium 7}d to 13d, low 5d to 7d. Locks: Merino 6d to 9d, halfbred 6d to B}d, crossbred 4d to 54d. Top price was paid for thirteen bales of super halfbred ewe branded “Kinmoull,” .which fetched 213 d. Top price for merino was 20}d for eleven bales of super'ewe. Passings were less than 2 per cent. Prices showed an advance of more than ICO per cent on the first Timaru sale last season, largely owing to the rise in three-quarterhreds. The average price over the whole sale was, nearly a halfpenny up on Christchurch rates, and South Canterbury farmers will receive about £190,000 as a result of the sale.
