AERIAL DEFENCE

R.A.F. INCREASE NEXT YEAR

HOME AND OVERSEAS SERVICE

(United Press Association— By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.)

(Received this day at 12 noon). LONDON, December 12

The “Yorkshire Post’s”'aeronautical editor says: “Provided the international situation is unchanged, the Air Force will be increased by four squadrons, or about fifty planes in 1934 three squadrons for home defence, and the others for overseas. Already the home defence has been reduced by one squadron which left for Singapore last week.

It is significant that aerial strategists regard the Scottish manoeuvres on September 15 as bearing on the Singapore responsibilities. If the emergency arose in the Ear East, the extent to which its defence would be entrusted to the air would be- depended upon the effectiveness of operations, similar to those visualised at the Firth of Forth.
