BRUTAL ATTACK
MAN KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS.

HAMILTON, November 27. 'A brutal assault was committed on John Barton Elliott, a garage attendant at the Morris petrol station in Hamilton, last evening, allegedly by motorists calling lor benzine.
Elliott, who is a married man, 21 year® of age, was the sole person on duty when two men in a car pulled up and ordered benzine. As the result of trouble over payment Elliott says that he vent to telephone his employer, who resides at another station a mile away. The employer, Mr Morris, heard Elliott speak and then came the sound of a dull thud and he could get no reply. He rang the police and a neighbour, who went -to-the scene and found Elliott unconscious on the floor. He wa s removed to. the Waikato Hospital, but his condition, was not serious -to-day.
The injuries allegedly were inflicted by a piece of wood two feet long and one and a half inches square. The sum of £ls in the till .was not disturbed.
