RECENT BIG QUAKE
DUE TO GIGANTIC METEORITE?
(United Press Association—Bv Electri* Telegraph—Copyright)
(Received this day at 12.45 p.m.) LONDON, November 26,
The “Despatch” . s ays some scientists believe that the fact that Baffin Bay is three thousand mile outside, of- the earthquake iarea, combined with the. absence of confirmatory news, suggest that the world-shaking disturbance on November 21 was due to a gigantic, meteorite, similar to that which stiuck the Yeniseisk district in Siberia in 1908, and penetrated three miles .into the earth, destroying forests for thirty miles.
Dr Kennedy, of the Official Geological Survey, says he would rather, believe the disturbance was due to a meteorite, than an earthquake,, a s . the latter would mean that Britain and •other regions, formerly thought to he safe, were liable to bad earthquakes.
