PHENOMENAL INDICATIONS.

LONDON, November 21

Mr Shaw, a West Bromwick • seismologist, announced early this morning that “a great earthquake ha s occurred, it was at 23.28 o’clock, and was prabably in the Near East. The largest waves were recorded at 23.45 o’cioJt The cjuake’s record is not yet finished. The whole world is shaking at tne present moment.”

The “Daily Mail” points out in regard to the earthquake that the needles of Mr Shaw’s instruments have moved ten inches, wherea s a, quarter of an inch of movement is ilie normal indication of a considerable disturbance.

The “Daily Mail” adds that the telegraphs and .the telephones in the affected area , are probably completely out of action, thus accounting for tiie absence of news.

After checking information from Bombay, the expert of Kew observatory has decided that the earthquake occurred at Baffin Bay. He points out that if it had been in the Near East the times at Kew and Bombay would have coincided, but the difference show-, ed it had occurred to the north west, not to tile south east of Kew where the needle moved twelve inches showing large disturbance and that the waves had circled the world several times.
