Twenty-seven Ulster Unionists, including Lord Craigavon, and the entire Cabinet, have been returned unopposed in the election for Northern Ireland. It is considered that if Air cie Valera wins the South Down seat at the Ulster elections, lie will proclaim that his election demonstrates a desire of the people to end 'the partition of Ireland. It would be unlikely that he would take h*s seat if elected; unless he reverted to an earlier attitude that the Oath of Allegiance is only on empty formula. Mr do Valera may hold a ptreeleeticn meeting in South Down. Air de Valera lias paid the £l5O deposit, and has been nominated for the South Down seat in the Ulster election.

Ho has only one opponent, a Republican. Air Thomas AlcGrath, who is a butcher. Consequently, the Nationalists must choose between Air de Valera’s policy or the extreme programme of the I.R.A.
