In a twelve round professional boxing contest to-night between George Singleton (13st lOlbs), Invercargill, and Ray Nico] (12-st lllbs) Ohai, lig.htheavy and heavy champion of New Zealand, Singleton won the decision on points. The fight was voted ore of the beet heavyweight contests in Invercargill for some time.
Singleton’s cleverness in both long •range and in-fighting won the verdict for him. In the last round he had Nico] virtually out on his feet, a- heavy left swing to the jaw rocking the champ, ion badly.
The fight was not for the title, hut it is understood that the pair will be matched 'shortly for the heavyweight title.
ENGLISHMAN WINS ON K.O. NEW YORK, November 18. Jack Pettifer, English heavyweight, knocked out Jack McCoy (Philadelphia), in the third round. This fight was his American debut.
U.S. WELTER CHAMPIONSHIP. CHICAGO, November 18. Blarney Ross, of Chicago, retained the junior welterweight championship, gaining the decision over. Sammy Fuller. (Boston) in a ten round bout.
