“FACING THE MUSIC”

SOUTH WESTLAND TOUR

The South Westland tour of the Hokitika Amateur Dramatic Club has been an unprecedented success. Following the performance <at Ross last Wednesday ,the play was presented at Harihari on Friday night and Waiho on Saturday. In each case, the hall, was well filled, in fact at Waiho there was insufficient' seating accommodation and a large number were compelled to stand the whole evening. The undoubted success of the production is obvious, since the discomforture experienced by tliose standing passed unnoticed as the audience were one and all completely engrossed in the performance. It is pleasing to note that the audience at Waiho was the largest that has ever been accommodated there at any entertainment. The play was the first entertainment of the nature to he presented in South Westland and the enterprise shown by the Club has been fully justified. Innumerable requests have poured in for repeat performances, besides requests from other places where it was impossible to show this time on account of the limited schedule which had to he adhered'to by the Club.

A particularly pleasing feature of the tour was the great appreciation shown by the respective audiences. Their applause was unstinted and the boundless humour so cleverly-portrayed by the caste was appreciated most heartily by the audience, who readily grasped the intricacies of this hilarous comedy.

The Club, in preparation for this tour, had spent considerable time in making a complete set of scenery adaptable for the smaller stages. This was most elaborate and. transformation thus effected on the various stages was the subject of delighted comment from all quarters.

The various artists entered wholeheartedly into the spirit of the tour and concentrated on displaying their ability to tlieir audiences without any reservation whatever .

This pioneer effort has been so successful that in response to the insistent demands of the residents of South Westland who have guaranteed capacity houses on all future occasions, it is their intention to keep faith with them by niakng an annual tour after the completion of thdir performances in town.
