The “Financial News” says: “The intention of tne Now Zealand Government is to compel the banks operating in the Dominion to surrender thengold holdings at their par value. This has caused indignation in banking circles in London. Several of the banks that are affected are British institutions, which are registered here. The mea.sufe ) therefore, is not purely an internal concern. The loss involved will be considerable, and the banks concerned have every reason to resent this unfair treatment. It is hoped that this ill-advised step will be reconsidered before if becomes law.
