The “Financial Times’ ” Tokyo cormnondent says Japan is planning an economic self sufficiency by capturing a new market to recoup losses due to foreign tariffs. She intends to take South American raw material ,including meats wool wheat and hides in exchange for manufactures. At pTesent almost all her wheat is imported from Australia and Canada; beef tallow and wool from Australia. The Government, because it may cost more to purchase from 'South America, is forming a great national trading company with branches throughoys South America. Little success lattended Japanese wool growing because bamboo grass is fatal to sheep.

As Manchuria .-and- Korea pre not handicapped in. this respect, a new Japanese Manjinldipian. sheep/ raising association expects to” increase flocks from the present" two ' -million - to twenty-five million, within twenty-five years,. _ '
