BADLY BURNT
YARNiSII 'CATCHES EIRE. (Per Press Association —Copyright). Wellington, September 29. Frederick Howard of King’s Crescent, Lower llutt, was badly burnt about the fade and body last evening. A bottle of varnish had been placed on, a mantelpiece well away from the fir?. . Howard and bis wife were sitting in.front of the stove, when the bottle cracked, and the contents made contact with the stove. Mrs Howard had heard the crack and managed to escape, but ber husband was enveloped in flames, his clothes being saturated with fhe varnish, which blazed fiercely. Tn an endeavour to prevent, the spread of the fire he rushed outside, but this only made matters worse, for himself." Miss Howard, and a young man, however, saved him. Mrs Howard tan out to alarm the Fire Brigade and - inSt managed to do so before fainting at the box. She was found there by the brigade when they dashed up. Meanwhile the fire had been put out. A doctor was called and sent Howard to the hospital in the free ambulance.
