MAN TAMPERS WITH WARNING
POWER BOARD PROSECUTION
TE AROHA, September 16.
A case brought by the Thames Valley Power Board, to serve as ia warning, was heard in the Te Alpha Magistrate’s Court to-day before Mr F. IV. Platts, VS.M. ' . Robert Steven Avery,, of Hikutaia, admitted tampering with electrical apparatus which .wag subject to the electrical supply rcguulatiqns. i*»Mr"'Q. Gilchrist- for the boars?, salt* that defendant had connected with an unauthorised extension a heating point which wa s tapped to give light in ■another room. The gravity of the offence lay in the fact that by iS o doing he was able -to obtain power at the cooking , rate for lighting, which was of far more significance than the lesser offence of tampering. This wa,s the first case of this nature brought by the board, which did not desire, a . heavy penalty, but- that it would seive as a warning to consumers generally.v ' The magistrate .said that in the circumstances he. thought a fine of 10 s ) with costs, : would * meet the- case.
