MISS KAY’S FINE PERFORMANCE TRIBUTE IN MELBOURNE PRESS A remarkable incident which occurred during Miss O. Kay’s runaw'ay victory in the final of the Australian women’s golf championship is recorded in Melbourne papers that have just come to hand.

At the long ninth in the first round, the New Zealand ‘ player sliced her drive badly into the trees. A girl who had just walked from the clubhouse to enjoy her first view of an imporant match, was standing under a tree about thirty yards from the fairway when Miss Kav’s ball struck her over the rjght eye and rebounded hack to the fairway, fortunately without injury to the spectator. The latter seemed ashamed at her sudden participation in the game, though it was fortunate for Miss Kay who managed to halve the hole jn sixes after both had bundercd their thjrd shots.

Npwsoaper reports indicate that the final was played under conditions that could not have been more testing and severe. The first round was played in a comparative' blizzard, rain beginning to fall when the fifth hole was reached Tlie afternoon round .also began m heavy driving rain. Miss Ivay showed herself no fair weather golfer, and played golf that could scarcely be bettered under any conditions. She proved herself a real champion under conditions that were sufficient to unnerve the ■ most stolid player, Anti her effortless swing seemed to he quite unaffected by the merciless blasts of wind which frequently upset her opponents’ .shots.- ~
