CARAVAN ROUTE
MOTOR ROADS PLANNED. SINO-SWEDISH' EXPEDITION. PEKING, September 6. The oldest and longest caravan route . in the world will soon hear the “honking” of motov-cai'S,- rushing past the old-fashioned camels. The Nanking Government, ha s appointed the. famous- Swedish- explorer, Dr Sven Hedin (why is resident at Peking) leader of a small Sino-Swedish expedition which will leave Kiieishua by motor next month to survey two motor highways intended to develop trade between the remote interior and the coast. Besides traversing the sJk route •across the Mongolian desert, the party will survey the Imperial road through the province of Iva-nsu, returning direct to Nanking afte r eight months in the field. The highways,' when ; completed, will be each 2QOO miles long.
