OBITUARY
The death occurred on Saturday at War-uka, Auckand, Of Air ' Christian Emji Olson, at tho residence of his daughter Mrs H. W. Smith. The debased was formerly a well known butcher at .Stafford ‘for many years. He made a .lucky speculation in Broken ■Hill silver mine 6 hares from which he received a large return. Later he removed to Kumara and after living there for some years lie left for the North Island. Deceased was 92 years of age..
The death took place at Greymouth yesterday of Airs Naylor, wife of Air Arthur -Naylor, deputy official assignee. The deceased had been ailing for the past twelve months, and the end was not unexpected. The late Mrs Naylor was a native o.f South Spit, Hokitika, where her parents, the -late Air and M-rg Duncan, were well-known and esteemed among the earliest of West Coaat pioneers. She is survived by two brothers, Air William Duncan,.’' (Westport), the well-known -rifleman, -and Air John Duncan (Te Awamutu), and by three .sisters, Mesda.me s M. A. Holley (Hokitika), E- -Casserley (Blackball) •and -C. Duske (Blackball). The relatives will have the .sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.
News has been received of the death of James Spence at Hastings on the 19th inst., aged 82 years. The deceased was a member of the well know n Spence family formerly of Rimu, where he resided for some years- At that time he was elected a member of the Westland County Council for the Rimu Riding. Mr Spence was an occasional visitor to the Coast renewing old acquaintances and looking up his relatives. On the occasion of his last visit in M a Y; Mr 'Spence attended the meeting of the County Council -and was felicitated by the .chairman and members. Mr Spence at that time appeared in good health, and remarked that he had cycled to the Rimu dredge, and had greatly enjoyed his stay. His early demise after appearing so well ,on the occasion of his -late visit, came as a great surprise to big friends and relatives. Mr Spence was of a happy disposition and a capable business man. He was well diked while ini this .community, and wag a popular figure at Rimu during his stay on the goldfield. A. son, Mr A|. W. Spence, resides at Christchurch. Mr Alexander Spence of Brit-tan Street, and Mr George Spence of Koiterangi, are nephews of the deceased. /To all the bereaved every sympathy will be extended.
