. Replying to a statement mad e by Air E. L. Hills, independent Labour candidate : <for Lyttelton, that he had been offered a sum to withdraw from the campaign and “It had not come from the Coalit.io n party,” Air H. E. Holland (Labour Leader) gave an emphatic denial to the veiled suggestion that the Labour Party had made an offer to Air , Hills to withdraw. 'Air Holland said “In a.H its history, the New Zealand “Labour Party has never offered money to . any man to withdraw from a \figbt, nor has it offered money to anyone to .enter a fight for the purpose of splitting votes.” i
