POPULATIONS EVACUATE TOWNS.

“China’s sorrow.” the Yellow River, lias flooded over an area of two thousand square miles in the province of Shangtung. A foreign expert returning hero from the scene of the disaster reports that a million and.a half people are affected, hut the loss of life is small owing to the ample warning Several towns are completely evacuated, and the populaces and others, including prisoners in gaols, took refuge in mediaeval walls.
Everywhere the dykes are feverishly being strengthened, and the gates of some cities are being barricaded with sandbags The river is now falling. \
