A HURRICANE
WIDESPREAD DAMAGE.
IN WEST INDIES.

Scenes of death and destruction are described to-day, as repaired communication lines brought first reports from southern Trinidad, of the havoc wrought by Tuesday night’s hurricane. Howling storms lashed the coast all Tuesday night and blew out yesterday, leaving fallen telegraph and telephone lines, unrooied-houses and broken ; oilfield derricks in its wake. Several drownings are reported owing to the foundering, of small boats. A number of people were injured when trees were, uprooted.. The hurricane was accompanied by . torrential rains and caused: much damage in. the. south -.east butreached, its height in the south-west, centering around Paiorsco oil district.
