There are signs of revival in the building trade, due to the Unemployment Boards new subsidy scheme. It was stated to-day that' a rise- in tne price - of timber was anticipated, and that prominent builders urge persons contemplating building or alterations to put their work in hand immediately. Several big contracts are in prospect, and at 4,20 o’clock to-day the Labour Department at Christchurch had received applications foy £76,501 in subsidies under No. 10 'Scheme. Some £28,371 of this sum, representing wages. These applications cover a period of about ten days. The highest individual application is for £40,000. A great many of the enquiries . are for subsidies for building dwellings,
