GOLD SENSATION

RICH OTAGO FIELD 240 OUNCES.TO THE TON. (Per Przss Association - Copyright.) DUNEDIN, June 28. A sensational s trike of gold on the Cromwell Flat during the p -st two or three days hag forcibly demonstrated the possibilities of gold production in this area. When the Be!l-Ki.lgour •strike was made, Professor Park theorised that the prospectors had found tho bed -of an o]d river course. This idea was scouted |in many quarters, and was allowed to die, but the most recent discovery proves the' existence of an old river bed with marvellously rich liver wash.

The Bell-Ki'lgour claim was said v* be the starting point of the old river bed. It is now proved that such was the case by a strike of gold one mi re north of Cromwell on the Molyneux River, which is tho other terminal point of the old river bed, .according to Professor Park's theory.

During the past few days, the wash has improved from 2oz per ton to 240 oz per ton. The wash was -conducted by a newspaper representative- in the first instance, and (by a bank manager later, who • -found that one ounce to the half-dish, as reported by the representative, wag more than confirmed by over a-n ounce per half-dirib

It is suggested that - £50,000 per acre for the 1000 acres flanking the old river bod w|U revive mining in Central Otago to an extent that has never been dreamed of. The Dead Man’s Point claim promises more than any other in the history -of gold mining in the district.

A significant fact in demonstration of Professor Park’s theory of -an old river bed is the fact that the gold taken from Dead Man’s Point is similar in every respect to, that secured from the Bell-Kilgour claim. Thi s is vouched for by . the manager of the Bell-Kilgour claim.
