DEBUTANTES’ BALL
GREAT INTEREST SHOWN. Great intercet is being shown* in Debutantes' ball to be held at tho Soldiers’ Hall, on Wednesday night) next, as a benefit for the Racing Club. Tile general arrangements are - now well forward. 1 here are 35 debutantes to be presented to the. Mayoress; -Airs G. A. Perry. y:f-tho,number, 21 are town residents arid 14 country residents, including i visitors from' Awatuna (A, Russ (3), Kumara, Koitcrangi (2), Arah'ura, .'.Woodstock, Haver iociv North, lvanieri, (2),. and Greymouth. _ne feature should be a very interacting spectacle, and is being much talked of. Arrangements have been made through 3ZR. station to broadcast the proceedings at the ball, and description of, the .frocks and; the bright scene will be given over the,air from the hall. Inis will be a novelty which in itself will create great public interest. . K ,
At a meeting of the. ladies’ . committee yesterday, it was reported- Mrs Staveley would, arrive here to-morrow, and will direct the presentation ceremony, for which pui'pese there would be a rehearsal on. Monday evening. The scene at the presentation will ,be taken by flashlight .by Messrs Steven-r son and Kennedy. The ladies’ committee is now epncluding the arrangements for the supper. The first -sitting will be reserved for the debutantes and their, escorts, commencing at 10.30; j Numerous gifts for the supper were, reported, and further donations may ,-be .notified- toj-Mrs H. Thompson. Mesdames. H. Thompson and Yarrall will be the mptre-n of honour; and chaperone, respectively, for .the debutantes ‘
The music for the ball will be supplied by the Happiness Boye. and the Black Hand Orchestras. Continuous music will be provided,, and .extras given by the Parryphone, so there should not be . a dull moment. Mr W. A. Jamieson, AI.C.C, will be the faster of Ceremonies 1 for the evening. The hall is to he re-decorated .for tho occasion, fori which .purpose working bees for Monday and Tuesday evenings under Air H. T. Parry were decided on. A representative of 3ZRi will visit the ball in advance-and have all arrangements.- completed for a relay of the- ball proceedings over; the.*, air. It. was deported there was a good sale of. tickets for the function, a.- number of visitors from the country being expected. With the local-patronage there (•should be a large-,'attendance,- and there is every prospect o? the- event being a- great success from every point of view. Tickets now are on sale; and may be obtained from several' shopkeepers or at the County office.
