CHARLES EVANS. We regret having to record the death. of,a well known- citizen, -jn the persdtf 4 cf -Mr Charles Evans, the well known toiler of Beye-l Street, who passed away suddenly last night about. H. 30, to’elpelc. The deceased bad a stroke last.night and, died , a short time afterwards. .The deceased was a native of County Shrop r shire, England, and 67 years of age. He came to New' Zealand when 20' years °f age. and soon after settled in. 'Hokitika, .wjiere he .engaged ah', hi® trade a few years later purchasing;the business of Mr Ben Dyson. In 1898 he was one of those who suffered from;the big fire that destroyed ,3: block. of buildings in Revell Street. Laterm he removed to premises opposite Stafford Street where he had icontimued'. in •business ever since. He ha® beeit. h well known figure iin the/ town oyer long period of years. For a number of years Mr Evans has been a trustee of Hokitika.Sayings Bank ahd generally took" a phjfh i' nterest >? the welfare or. the j town."’His wife predeceased Junr some "years ago. He leaves a fathilyr of three daughters (Mrs Amuri, King; and Misees Lorna and Florence! ,9,11 of Hokitika), fmi r sons (Charles; William, Boy find John, all resident; here) and two sisters (Mrs T. Etfcpck: of Ttos s and Mr, Dobson in Englatid). The funeral takes place to-mortow -after, noon.

The death occurred, yesterday of Mrs Mary.Blanchette,'a former resident of Brunner, who was predeecased many!' years ago by her husband. She leaves three sisters. *
