U.S. DISAGREEMENT
ON TARIFF CUTS PROPOSAL BEFORE CONFERENCE. (Uuited Press Association—By Electrio Teiegr aph—Copyright) LONDON, June 19. The “Daily Chronicle” says: Senator Gillman (of the U.S-A. delegation the London has repudiated the American proposal for the ton per cent, reduction ijn .custom duties. His repudiation has caused a sensation.
The document was actually handed to the League Secretariat by one of the experts attached to the American Legation. It is closely in accord with the views of Senator Hull (U.S. Secretary) who mentioned the idea of ,a, ten per cent, tariff cut at a private meeting of the American delegates. Senators Pittman and Couzens, and representatives Morrison and Mcßeynolds opposed it, and they were staggered when they read that the proposal had bee in officially advanced on behalf of the delegation. The incident cam© as the climax to a week in which discontent is increasing among the American delegates, who complain that they have not been informed as to President Roosevelt’s tariff stabilisation policy, saying they had been given practically no information as to what had been happening at the banker talks.
