RELIEF MEN STRIKE
POSITION STILL UNSETTLED

The strike of the Kapuka Camp IteJiew Workers has not yet been settled/ The Mayor and Messrs W, M, C. Denham and T. O’Byrne met the twentysix men affected on two occasions today, after representations had been made to the Assistant Public Works Engineer. The latter’s terms of settlement were that .seven of the men should) not be allowed to return to work, and that the remainder could resume work on Monday next. Until then the\ would be accommodated at the Camp, but their meals would be charged against them. They would also have to find their own means of transport to the camp. These terms were not accepted. This evening, so that men—with no homes and no money—should have shelter aud food, representations were made to the Secretary of the Hospital Board, whtf agreed to accommodate the men at various boardinghouses until to-morrow morning.
