MOSCOW TROUBLE

VICKERS MEN REFUSED BAIL,

TRIAL POSSIBLY IN APRIL

MOSCOW, March 27

M. Vishinsky, the Supreme Court Procurator after three hours’ questioning Monkhouse, refused to extend bail to the nine of the Vickers employees who ai‘e still in prison. It is understood that the Procurator .refused to “accept delivery” <>f Vickers demand for bail,, on the grohhd that it inserted the prisoners’ innocence, and denied the validity of a trial by a Soviet Court,

The “Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says he understands that the Soviet intends to stage the trial of the Vickers employees early in April. The charges still have not been communicated to the British Ambassador. The Soviet journal “Isvestia” says; There is no reason why the trial of a. few: engineers, should affect Anglo-Soviet trade relations. There is good will on the Soviet’s side.

ON VICKERS AFFAIR,

The Moscow newspapers “Pravda” and “Isvestia” comment on the char-, acteristic acidity of the Vickers affair, and say the Soviet won’t be stamped hv the British bluff. They accused the British press of hysteria. The “Pravda” recalls the Arcos raid in London as an example ,of British “civilised .justice.”
