WELLINGTON, -March 21
North-west rain this morning show* ed 'some signs. of clearing at ten o’clock, but set in again after eleven, making a start of the M.G.C. match uncertain. The wicket was covered, and will take no harm.
The 'wicket was inspected by thecaptains at 11.25, and it was declaim to make another inspection at 12 o’clock. After (further inspection of the wicket It was decided at 2.30 t 0 abandon play in the match for to-day. M r Donnelly, the Chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council, stated that e ac h day of the match had 1,(5011 insured against rain. The required ten points of rain fell between 9 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. to-day, and, as a result, the Council will be paid £SOO.
