SKI-ING IN CRATER

ALPINIST ON EGMONT.

NEW PLYMOUTH, February 24

A member of the Stratford Mountain Club who was one of the large party which assembled at the summit of Mount Egmont during the week-end carried skis to the crater and put in some practice on the . snow there. This is the second time that skis have been used in the crater, a Stratford Mountain Club party having carried skis to the summit in March last year. Mr R. Allen, 0 f New Plymouth, captain of the Taranaki Alpine Club, and Mr F. Addis, of Stratford, spent Saturday night on the summit. They erected a tent and spent a comfortable and comparatively warm night. This is the second time persons have slept on the top of Egmont, Mr H. N. Murray, of Eltham, having carried a tent to the summit in 1930 and spent the night there alone.
