The Minister of External Affair(Mr ’Latham) 'has announced that the British Government, having obtained' sovereign rights • over Antarctic territory lying immediately south of Australia, other than 'Allelic Land, south of .60 degrees. a.ud 45 degrees east, lias placed ft under the control of the. The area lias considerable actual and potential economic importance,- being the scene of many whaling enterprises. Theiy is also reason to believe that : fur-bearing animals and some bird life could the developed economically. Ibe Commonwealth will appoint a committee to report, upon the means of developing the resources of the new territory.
