WHARF DISPUTE
STRIKE AT NEW PLYMOUTH,
HANDLING RATES INVOLVED,

NEW PLYMOUTH, February 13
A strike of the waterside 'workers employed on trucks handling slag from the ship Port Napiier held up work at New Plymouth this afternoon. When work commenced in t.h© morning, the eheeterg working on the wharf claimed an additional ,of sixpence an hour for handling file slag, which they are not entitled ,to under the award.
The claim was referred to the disputes committee,, which infused t 0 agree. According to th e award, the procedure "is to,-refer the dispute to a national disputes committee, the work to. proceed -without interruption. At 3.40 p.m., the or.e.n ~ working on the trucks refused to -..receive tslings from tike ship, n® more work being done during the afternoon. Th e dispute -has bom referred to the national disputes, committee.
