MILL MANAGER STABBED,

CALCUTTA, January 20

Mr H.. Brown, the Scottish manager of a jute mill on the banks of the Hooglily, was stabbed five times to-day by a mob of Indian coolies. Accompanied by an English assistant named Todd, Mr Brown entered the mill and, seeing men idling, dismissed the one he thought the worst offender. The man asked his comrades to stop work apd -100 of them, armed with knives, rushed and overwhelmed Messrs Brown and Todd. Mr Brown was seriously injured, but his assistant escaped unhurt. Twenty-six men were arrested.
