TATJRANGA, January 26. 1 Sir Charles Ivingsford Smith stated it was his intention to put in a. tender for the English mail sendee this yeajr. Smithy said he would first tender to fly mails between Australia and England, and vice versa in a period of two week.'j, /with the ultimate object of cutting down the time to eight or tea days.
Smith met Mrs H. If. Hewett, who claims to be the first certificated lady pilot in tbe world. She got a ticket in 1910.
Yesterday Smithy took up nineteen full load s of joy riders. The Southern Cross will rfrrive at Auckland to-mor-row. The engines of the Southern Cross will probably be overhauled at Christchurch, prior to preparations being made for the flight back to Australia from the Ninety Mile Beach.
