MERRITT FOR COAST

POSSIBILITY NEXT SEASON. (Per Pres! 1 ssociotion~~~ Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 17. There is a possibility that Canterbury cricket will lose the services of W. E. Merritt during the 1933-34 season. Merritt states that the opening of a permanent West Coast branch of the firm with which he is connected in Christchurch might necessitate his living in Greymouth during the next season. He had not definitely decided on the matter, he said, but there was every possibility that he would have to go to the Coast. When Merritt was on the West Coast recently he was impressed by the standard J of cricket there. There is keen club competition, particularly ;it Greymouth, where the cricket association now has a fine ground unci good wickets. Cricketers at Greymouth have known for some weeks of Merritt’s intended stay, and are keen to have the services of the Canterbury man, both as a coach and a player.
