MEN DISMISSED AT WILTOX
OTHER MIXERS STOP IN PROTEST.

AUCKLAND, January 17,
Men employed at the Wilton coal mine at Glen Massey, near Hunt-ley, numbering between seventy and eighty, have refused to work t'iiio week, the ground given for their attitude being that it is a protest -against the dismissal of fifty-five milieus immediatelybefore the Christmas holidays.
Th. e -men .worked 'limit week, and the trouble becam e -evident only this week.
The Company was compelled to dismiss the fifty-five miners on account of slackness of trade. The miners have held several meetings in regard to th e question, and fur/.M* •iilieungJ are qjnsideivd p-O----bable.
when inquiries were made at the office of the Wilton Collieries Ltd., Auckland, it was stated that no statement .regarding the Company's position in the matter would be made at present. It was stated that the men's action was 'considered to be contrary to their agreemnt with their employers, and, in consequence, consideration would he given to the whole position.
