The death has occurred at Christchurch, after an illness lasting for more than four months, of Mr John Robert Burt, of the firm 0 f A. an d T. Burt,, Limited, at the age of 59. Mr Burt was well-known in business circles throughout the Dominion, and in his younger days was a prominent footballer and cricketer, representing Otago in both these sports, as well as being an emergency in one of the New Zealand' football teams.
A reduction of six cases of infectious and other notifiable diseases in the Canterbury and West Coast Health Districts was recorded during the week which ended at noon on Monday as compared with the previous week. All the -cases, six -in number, were reported in- the Canterbury district, and were as follows: —'Scarlet fever, 3; tuberculosis, 2; and erysipelas, 1. No deaths from infectious or other notifiable diseases wore reported in either the Canterbury or the West Coast Health District.
