FARM .HAND DROWNED

A farm hand, Herbert A r al]illey, aged 19 years, was drowned in KJmilia Lake, two mile s from Huntly, after a rescue attempt by a sixteen-year-old companicti, James Rye, had failed. Deceased was diving from a boat when be collapsed. He struggled violently with Rye who was forced to release him when in an exhausted condition. •

Judge Ostler e reserved judgment in the case of- Robert William Cox and Elizabeth Walsh, claim for £650 against the. estate of the late John McCcmbe, horse trainer, awarding plaintifi'y £650, but without interest. This was the sequel to the case heard last Wednesday concerning an alleged loan to McCombe in 1926.

The Waite unit a Power Board, by cuts and re-arrangements, to-day authorised economies totalling over £2300 annually, and a. reduced charge for ordinary lighting by one penny per unit, thereby saving consumers £4030 ■per annum. In addition to wage iaud salary •cuts, the Board reduced members’ honorarium of £1 Is each for each meeting to 10s 6d.
