SHEEP KILLED
ACCIDENT AT WESTFIELD
MAN’S LEG FRACTURED

Two ymotordorries and a mob of sheep were involved in an accident o.i the Great South Road near Westfieh early yesterday morning, a man being injured ariC five sheep killed. The injured man was William Skivington, who residpg at Church Street, Ponyonby. Mr Skivington was riding in a lorry owned bv the Auckland Gi's Company, Limited, which was proceeding towiu Otahuhu. After crossing the Westfield overhead bridge, tlie driver, Mr Jw*tn W. East, found his path blocked by a large mob of sheep through which another lorry wag driving toward Auckland. There was a slight collision between the two vehicles, and a number of .sheep became frightened and ran under one of the front wheels of the south-bound lorry. The lorry 'swerved sharply across the - road and five sheep j were killed.
When it .seemed that the lorry would mount the road embankment and go over on to the mud Hats, Mr Skivington jumped out on to the concrete roadway, fracturing his lef leg. Hr was removed to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. The lorry-driver was able to prevent the lorry leaving the road, although the front wheels and bonnet wore suspended over file hanking. The front of the lorrv was slightly damaged but the driver escaped injury.
