A tourist from Canterbury, Miss Eekford. met with a serious accident on the road from Spirits Bay. In getting out of her ear, the engine of which was left in gear, she slipped and fell, suffering a compound fracture of the left leg near the ankle. The ear subsequently moved off and ran round i n a circle, hut eventually stopped with the engine Mill running. Maori children coming home from school found Miss Eckford, stopped the engine of the car and sent for the schoolmaster, Mr G. J. Rust, who rendered first aid. Air and All's Alorrison and Air Lidgard motored from Te Paki station and conveyed Miss Eckford there. Dr. fllix arrived firom Kaitaia at 4.30’ this morning and. after attending ' to Aliss Eck ford’s injury conveyed her j to the Kaitaia. Hospital, down NinetyAlile .Beach.

DEATH FROM INJURIES.

PALAIERSTON N.. December 19

Following upon injuries received a fortnight ago in a collision with a cyclist near AVaituma, John Thomas AlcCoughern, aged* 16, died in hospital. The hoy was walking up an incline and the cyclist coming down when the collision occiiiired, deceased sustaining seve-ia concussion.

A fracture of his left wrist was received by a school boy, All'll AlcCJuiU'sh, aged 13, of Ponsonhy, when he fed down a bank in Western Park yh-ortly after eight O’clock last evening while .playing wfiUi other boys. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital by a iSt. John ambulance, but was able to return to his home after receiving treatment in the casualty ward. A water-side worker, Mr M. O’Grady, of Hobson Street, received a similar injury yesterday afternoon through slipping on the Central Wharf. After t'eafment hv the iSt. John ambulance and at the hospital he tvae also able to proceed to- his home.
