INSURANCE AGENT’S THEFT. (Per Press Association —■ Copyright.' CHRISTCHURCH, December 15. An insurance agent,. William Alfred Sandman, aged 37, of Greymouth, was charged, before ,Mr 'E. D. Mosley, S-M., in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, with the theft of £32 15s lid from the Australasian Temperance nnd General Mutual Assurance Society, Ltd,, and it was stated by his counsel (Mr R. Twyneham) that probably £3BO or £390 would be involved altogether. Accused, Mr Twyneham said, was prepared to give the p°Uce every assistance in elean'ng up the matter. Chief-Detective .1. Cm roll said it was alleged that Sandman, wh o had been a resident of Greymouth, had collected various sums in his capacitv agent for the company and converted them to his own use. Counsel said accused had surrendered ihimself voluntarily. Accused was remanded to anat Grevmouth on December 16. 1 nil being allowed in the sum of £2OO a:d one surety of £2OO.
