A CHINAMAN FINED £SO

AUCKLAND, December 13
A Chinese fruiterer; Allan Lum On, aged 32, appeared in the Police Court charged with unlawfully having in his possession twenty-one packets of prepared opium. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said the accused would not disclose where the drug was obtained. A bank book in the possession of the accused, who was described by Mr McHugh as a distributor of opium, shoivd a credit of £BO.
Answering Detective-Sergeant Kelly tho accused denied that the bank book was in connection with an opium “trust.” He said, the money belonged to his brother, who was a carrier. “He makes more money than most carrers,” stated the Magistrate.
l-lie accused was fined £SO, or in default throe months’ imprisonment. %
